A Miami institution returns

After years of silence, Churchill’s Pub — the legendary dive bar in Miami’s Little Haiti — is officially reopening on Friday, September 5. Known as the gritty heartbeat of Miami’s punk and hardcore scene since 1979, the venue closed in 2020 due to the pandemic and a bitter eviction battle.

Unpolished and unapologetic comeback

According to the announcement from David Siqueiros, Churchill’s media director, doors will open at 8:30 p.m. on reopening night. Admission will be free on a first-come, first-served basis. The statement promised a return to the venue’s underground roots, declaring: “Churchill’s Pub has always belonged to the artists, the audience and the community. We are here to give it back, unpolished and unapologetic.”

Beyond a one-night event

Organizers confirmed this will not be a one-off celebration but the beginning of a new chapter, with monthly showcases, goth nights, experimental performances and programming that embraces diverse subcultures.

Lingering questions

What remains unclear is whether the long-standing legal dispute between owner Mallory Kauderer and former manager Franklin Dale has been resolved. Still, for Miami’s underground community, the reopening marks a symbolic and long-awaited revival.
