In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the governor's race while in Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger was the winner.
Sherrill in particular focused on energy issues in her campaign as electricity prices in New Jersey have spiked over the course of the last year.
Meanwhile, in Georgia, Democrats picked up two seats on the Public Service Commission. Environmental groups celebrated the wins.
“Tonight, voters in New Jersey and Virginia chose leaders ready to take on soaring energy costs and the powerful interests driving them higher," said Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt in a written statement. "Governors-elect Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger earned voters’ trust with common-sense plans to lower costs by fixing PJM’s broken system and expanding cheap, homegrown, faster-to-build clean energy."
