Food Forcasts for 2024
Food in the 2024 Kitchen
I read that the Pantone Color of the Year is called Peach Fuzz. How fortunate, since I was intending to do a post on trendy foods. In case peachy fuzz does not ring a bell, it’s described as a pink/orange shade with a “vintage vibe” (whatever that means).
But with 2024 on the horizon, it’s also good to know the food trends. Those who study such things offer predictions, that might cause you to restock your cabinets and fridge.

Food Forecasts of the Experts
- More grazing,” (not the cow kind). “Snacking” might be a better word. It means selecting, small, healthy edible, such as, avocado toast or pan con tomate. These mini-treats can be nutritious and tasty.
- More naturally fermented items will make it onto the 2024 menu: sauerkraut, yogurt, kabocha, kimchi, tempeh (a soybean product).
- An increase in burgers made from mixed nuts and legumes. Look for more diverse, international flavors, i.e., pizza pot pies, burger quesadillas, sushi burritos, dessert pizza, savory ice cream.
- Comfort food and mood-enhancing meals. (Hmm . . . wonder if that means Aunt Nelly’s meatloaf or cannabis-laced brownies?)
- A return to cottage cheese, butter and cream—proving Julia Child’s quote that everything is “better with butter.”
- A rise in veganism and vegetarianism food meals.
- Mocktails—the fancy, non-alcoholic drinks will become more popular, as will “faux fish”—seafood made from root vegetables.
- More spices and herbs in dishes and beverages.
- Buckwheat, a nutritious grain used in soba noodles will be used to make even newer items.

Pan con tomate.
Change is inevitable. Food designers are giving us access to plant-based meals that could—in time—change the way we view the future.
