French Bistro in Uptown Earns Michelin Star Two Months After Opening
In one of the food world’s more shocking developments, a Dallas restaurant has earned a Michelin star after just two months in business. Mamani, led by executive chef and partner Christophe De Lellis, who spent more than a decade cooking at Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas, took home the coveted award at the second Texas guide ceremony on Tuesday, October 28, at the Wortham Theater Center in Houston.
The French and Italian-style bistro restaurant’s mission is making the fine dining experience more accessible and earning a Michelin star in its infancy is an impressive proof of concept. No other Dallas restaurants received a Michelin star, Michelin Green Star (a designation that honors forward-thinking, sustainable cooking), or a Bib Gourmand, (recognition of great food at great prices). Though Tatsu did retain its Michelin star.
Cattleack Barbeque, Gemma, Lucia, Mot Hai Ba, Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen, Nonna, Goldee’s all retained their Bib Gourmand status. Mister Charles received the Exceptional Cocktails Award, which went to Julian Shaffer of Rye last year.
The city that had the best night at the ceremony, that’d be San Antonio, which had two restaurants take home Michelin stars — the high-end steakhouse Isidore and the all-dessert, no-phones restaurant Nicosi, both from Austin’s Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group,
In the special awards category, Celia Pellegrini of Este and Suerte won the Michelin Sommelier Award, and Chuck Charnichart of Barbs B Q took home the Michelin Young Chef / Culinary Professional Award, and Houston’s Credence earned the Outstanding Service Award.
In Dallas, Michelin has now awarded two one stars and seven Bib Gourmands.
Yet again, no two or three-stars were awarded to any restaurants in the state. The full Dallas list follows below; check out Houston’s and Austin’s lists on their respective sites.
