Greene 'very impressed' with Pelosi's 'ability to get things done'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said Thursday she is “very impressed” with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) “ability to get things done” after she announced she will not seek reelection.

“I will praise Nancy Pelosi, she had an incredible career for her party,” Greene said on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”

“I served under her Speakership in my first term of Congress, and I’m very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party. So, I wish her well in her retirement, but I would like to see people exit Washington a lot sooner rather than wait until their eighties.”

Pelosi's departure will end a four-decade career during which she made history as the first woman to be Speaker of the House, pushed through some of the most consequential legislation in recent memory and solidified her standing as one of the most powerful members of Congress.

“With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative,” Pelosi said in a video on social media.

“As we go forward, my message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power. We have made history, we have made progress, we have always led the way.”

Greene’s cordial words about the former Speaker are notable, as she has historically gone after Democrats with harsh commentary. The Georgia Republican has also been at odds with her own party in recent weeks over health care, the shutdown and other matters.

On Wednesday, Greene said she had yelled at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) over the “utter failure” of keeping the lower chamber out of session.

“The fact that the House has been closed for six weeks now is a complete and total utter failure,” Greene told NewsNation’s Blake Burman on “The Hill.”

“And that’s on the Speaker of the House. While the rest of America’s going to work every single day, you’re going to work, people in this building are going to work, Mike Johnson is telling us to stay home and not do our jobs.”
