Trump to attend Commanders, Lions game

President Trump is slated to attend the Washington Commanders' home game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to the White House.

Trump will be seated in the box of Commanders owner Josh Harris, sports commentator Pat McAfee said during the announcement on ESPN.

The president is also expected to honor American veterans during halftime, a White House official told NewsNation, The Hill’s sister outlet.

His attendance at the game continues Trump's ramped-up presence in the sports world since returning to the White House.

In February, he became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. A week later, he was also spotted at the Daytona 500 and took laps around the racetrack in his motorcade known as “The Beast.”

He welcomed the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to the White House in April after the team was denied a visit following its 2018 win over its protests of the national anthem.

The president attended a New York Yankees game on Sept. 11, has gone to golf tournaments and watched a UFC championship fight in April alongside former White House adviser and tech billionaire Elon Musk.

The White House is also expected to host a UFC fight June 14, 2026 — also his Trump's 80th birthday — as part of the celebration for the U.S.'s 250th birthday.

Despite his decision to attend the game, the president has lamented in recent months some of the NFL's decisions — including its new kickoff rule. He was also critical of the decision to rename the Washington football team to the Commanders.
