Former St. Louis Cardinals Closer Ryan Helsley is Now a Baltimore Oriole

The wheels continue to turn as the baseball offseason rolls on with another free agent signing. This time it’s former St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley who is now reportedly a Baltimore Oriole.

I first saw this shared by MLB Trade Rumors. It’s based on a share on X by Katie Woo of The Athletic reporting that Ryan Helsley is in the process of finalizing a two-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles. She says the contract will allow Ryan to opt-out after the 2026 season. The deal is pending a physical.

The question is whether the Baltimore Orioles will use Helsley as a reliever or convert him to a starter. The speculation is that Ryan will likely be the Oriole’s closer with Felix Bautista expected to be unavailable for Baltimore until at least next August. Jeff Passan seems to confirm this.
